Del Mar Fair 6.14.08

I haven't got much to say because the fair, cause it doesn't have much to offer. If you paid for a ticket, you've paid to see real life infomercials, you've paid to eat junk food extreme(though funnel cake is pretty bomb), and you've paid to pay for entertainment. So try to get in for free, it'll be worth your while. The photo competition gallery is pretty much the highlight of the fair. Dope photos, and mad inspiration. Here's what I got at the fair:

el salvador may 23, 2008

El Salvador, home to MS-13 and 18th Street. I was offered a plane ticket to shoot a surf vid for my friends and with no second thoughts I jumped on that plane. It was my first time for 3rd world country travel and I found that its a dope country that everyone should check out. Originally not knowing what I was headed up for, I didn't bring my D70s SLR so I was relying on my skills and my Canon G3 camera. It was just as good, but I wish I had more time to shoot more. I also brought my Super 8 camera for kicks. But that will be in the DVD being made. The bad thing was that we were supposed to stay for a month, but because of bad weather and contaminated water we left early so the month became 1 week and a 1/2. Still chill. I got to talk to the local folks, swim and shoot in the waters, eat, shit and sleep with mesquitos. The food was bomb, and the alchohol was cheap. Almost the whole trip, we had beer for breakfast and $15 bottle service at lunch or late night. Accompanying that was dope lemonada and carne Asada plate. Thus we named this joint, "The Promised Land"
This trip experience told me its time to get more stamps on that passport and get out more.

The Shakeout May 2, 2008

It was the first time checking out a Rockabilly show in my life. What an experience! Great people and great music, at a great local joint. Here are some shots that show you what I saw.

packaging design shoot

Over on sunday I had helped my friend from SDSU to shoot some product design photos. This has nothing to do with class, but this s*** is a blog so you gotta put thoughts into it. Anyways it was pretty cool because my friend from state is also graduating this semester and has a grip of "capstone" like courses to take in the graphic design program.

In order to do our shoot, we made a bootlegged white screen with a quick light kit made from home depot lights and shot it at my pad. It was pretty sick because all the products were mock products that supposedly looked real. Also, we got to shoot the photos in context so you can see how these products were applied.

Also, I'm pretty stoked about the last day of class, FOOD drinks and FUN= dopeness.

PEACE.

4/13 daley ranch

It's almost time to submit the books and I thought my photos sucked so I thought I might check out one of the spots like Daley Ranch. It's free and close, and peaceful. I assumed there was a lot of native plants and native rock art. From taking a good long stroll I saw some stuff. I grabbed a grip of shots, took my time and here they are. Unprocessed. Peace.

Okay, this may count as my last "field trip" for the class and I'll have to give props for the teacher to let us freestyle our trips and photos. It may be a way to say the teacher can really teach. But enough BSing and more about the trip. If it weren't for this class, I wouldn't see the appreciation I have for shooting nature photographs. Alright now its time to peace out.

The Lake near school 4/9

Time was running out, and the semester comes close to an end. I found that in my photos for this class was not enough. I took the initiative to go to a lake near school and see if I can capture some dope photos. Unfortunately I forgot what the name of this lake was called but it reminds me of Lake Miramar but a smaller version. It was pretty sick to see that some plants had name tags and labels especially for us plant impaired.

Local lake Miramar 4/9

From my understanding in this point in the semester, I find myself quite behind a lot of my classes. But of course I don't stress since the classes I take are fun and have nothing on me(politely speaking). In this particular class, I wanted to get more photos so I decided to go to a local lake called Miramar lake to search for some subjects and stuff to photograph. Once again, these things are natures gifts to us that we may tend to overlook and today I have not overlooked. Peace and quiet and dope photos are truly great things to end the day with. But I'm a loud person, so I guess it balances with the quietness of miramar lake.
I honestly did not know if this was a native plant or flower, but with a pessimistic view it might be just another "import" in the world of plants and flowers.

It was getting cold and I didn't want to stop with just shooting where I was at. I learned from Del Dios that if i had struggle to search for the good spots I can get great shots. I wouldn't consider this sunset particularly good, but for ending the day it was dope.

Del Dios Lake Hodges - 3/15

After getting an email on the flower rush of Del Dios I went to check out the native plants that were growing. I found this spot to be like a hidden zone where all the pro native plant specialists or nature enthusiasts that travel to all the time. Before going out on this trip, the professor had told us in class how people excited that this year is the most "incredible display ever and may not be seen again.

As I walked to search for the crazy wildflowers produced by the weather recently, I only found these flowers. I then kept going on my trail and still could not find any good flowers to shoot. I finally realized that the wild flowers were already gone by the day I came.

Although, I hadn't seen the glorious beauty of the rare wildflowers I still left with the satisfaction of just being at the lake and the hills. Very good experience for the class and in life.
